Boat building and racing education program

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about my program.

I'm a disabled father who was raised around boats, boat building and racing. I have a son that I hope will have the same fortunate childhood that I have been blessed with. After coaching youth sports, I've realized there's a void that needs to be filled in our community. Many children who are interested in mechanical things have no source to help grow that interest. Whatever the reason may be, family dynamics, funding or lack of experience to teach them, I've decided to commit myself to helping.

I life with Muscular Dystrophy and Hereditary Neuropathy. My shop, it's tools and my hobbies are many times my only medication. I will pass my knowledge on to my own son and I feel that a way to show appreciation to my community as well as being thankful I'm still here, is to devote my time to helping other children as well.

I currently volunteer much of my time at local schools introducing children to the sport of boat racing and construction. Seeing the amount of support and interest in the sport as well as the woodworking and engineering that is involved, I'm trying to expand my program into actual hands on with the kids.

I'm looking for financial support to help purchase a small equipment trailer, specific tools, teaching aids, advertising and money to buy materials for the boat building projects. My goal is to be able to "set up shop" for after school programs and then donate the completed boat to a charity. I have complete support from local schools but the listed needs are my responsibility. They have welcomed me and my program but unfortunately I can not afford the expense along with my own commitments of family and health.

I've put a small goal to see if I'll gain some support and hopefully expand as the program grows. My own health issues give me first hand experience on how horrible one can be burdened financially. GoFundMe is full of situations such as mine seeking help for health issues. I have been fortunate enough to fight the good fight and never ask for help for my own struggles. I wish I had more disposable income to help these children more than I do. It's heartbreaking to me to see kids get lost in the mix due to having an interest in something that no one can help or guide them with.

I have the knowledge, the time and the love to teach youngsters. Even if they find a love for something other than boat building, I feel I will have done a small part to help them discover it.

I aim to be one more door that leads to something they may have never had the chance to open.

Again, thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and my program. I wish the very best to each and every one of you.
